The campus is centrally located, with convenient access by bus from Fribourg's train station (5-10 minutes) or on foot (15-20 minute walk).

About Fribourg

Fribourg is a historic bilingual city (French and German) in western Switzerland. The city features a well-preserved medieval Old Town with the St. Nicholas Cathedral, fortified walls, and the Sarine River valley. The University of Fribourg and HEIA-FR bring a dynamic academic presence to the city.

Practical Tips

Weather. Late August in Fribourg is usually pleasant: around 15–25 °C, with warm days, cool evenings and the occasional shower. A light jacket and a compact umbrella will serve you well, especially for the Gruyères excursion and the old-town walk.

Power & plugs. Switzerland uses type J sockets. Standard two-pin Europlugs (type C) fit without an adapter; Schuko, UK and US plugs need one.

Money. The currency is the Swiss franc (CHF). Credit and debit cards, including contactless, are accepted virtually everywhere, so there is no need to carry much cash. Service is included in restaurant prices; rounding up the bill is a kind gesture, but tipping is not expected.

Good to know.

Arriving the evening before? Plenty of restaurants sit within a short walk of the station, the hotels and the campus. A few suggestions, all open on Monday evening:
